How money reaches you: settlement, then your wallet

The two hops — buyer into your payment contract, contract into your payout wallet.

Money reaches you in two hops, and they are not the same event. First a payment arrives in your payment contract. Then a distribution moves what that contract holds out to your payout wallet. Zoyn never holds the funds at either point.

This article used to answer only the first hop under the title "When do funds arrive in my wallet?" — which is the second one. Both are below.

Hop 1 — the payment into your payment contract

  1. The buyer pays on the checkout page served on your own payment domain.
  2. The payment appears in your dashboard as Pending, then Arriving. We can see the buyer's payment and are waiting for the network to make it final. Nothing has settled yet — a payment at this stage can still be rejected. There is nothing for you to do while we wait.
  3. Arriving ends one of two ways. Normally, well under a minute later, the payment is marked Paid. If the network rejects it instead, the payment is marked Did not go through, no money moved, and the buyer can pay again using the same link. Until one of those two things happens the payment stays Arriving.

How long that wait lasts is a setting, not a fixed fact about the product, and it can change. The banner on the payment detail page counts up to the figure actually in force, so read the number there rather than one you were told once.

Funds land in the contract, which allocates them between your payout wallet leg and the Zoyn fee leg according to the split fixed when it was deployed. That split cannot be edited afterwards — if it ever needs to change, Zoyn has to replace the contract rather than edit it — so nobody, including Zoyn, can change where a settled payment goes.

Completed means the money is in your payment contract. It does not mean it has reached your payout wallet — that is hop 2.

Hop 2 — paying out the shares into your payout wallet

Your payment contract holds what arrives until a distribution runs. A distribution pays every payee named in the contract the share the contract fixes for them, so your payout wallet receives yours.

There is no claim step and no queue, and two different parties can start one:

  • Zoyn triggers distributions on your contract. Nothing is required from you for that to happen.
  • You can trigger one yourself, from your own wallet. Your payment contract is public, so a distribution can be started from any wallet, including yours.

Zoyn does not tell you when this hop will happen, because nothing in the product carries that answer — there is no next time the shares are paid out to show you, and inventing one would be a promise about your money that could not be kept. If you need the funds in your wallet at a particular moment, pay out the shares yourself.

What affects the first hop

  • A busy payment network can slow confirmations, though this is rare.
  • The buyer's payment method: paying by card at checkout can add processing time on the buyer's side before the money moves on the payment network.

Zoyn is software. It is not a bank, a payment processor, a payment gateway, a money transmitter or a money services business. Zoyn is never the seller in a sale (the "merchant of record"). Zoyn never holds a shop's money, and does not decide how long a payment company may hold it. When a customer pays by card or bank, the payment company handles that payment under its own terms and may hold it for a short time. The money then goes to the shop's own payment contract once the payment network has confirmed it.

Businesses can be based in 64 jurisdictions. A US state stays open when at least one checkout partner still serves buyers there. Customers can pay from 130+ countries through the checkout providers we connect to; which countries customers can pay from is set by those providers, not by Zoyn, and may change without notice. Not available in sanctioned jurisdictions: Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, Syria, and the Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions of Ukraine.
